The biggest hurdle for Industries 4.0 is the investment in new machines. However, most machines since the 1980ties are able to connect as IoT devices to the internet. Some modifications are sometimes needed to retro-fit them, but this is still little investment compared to buying new machines. In another scenario there it happens often that the machine manufacturers charges high license costs for upgrading their own software of Industries 4.0. retro-fitting your machines can save a large amount of these costs with the same quality.
